Childhood Chocolate Pudding

Ingredients
one cup sugar
six tablespoons cornstarch
one-half teaspoon salt
five cups milk
four 1-ounce squares unsweetened chocolate, cut into small bits
three teaspoons vanilla

Directions
In a saucepan, mix sugar, cornstarch, and salt. While stirring these ingredients together, very slowly add milk to the mixture. Then add the chocolate. Cook the pudding ingredients over medium heat. Stir constantly while cooking. Once mixture thickens, cook two or three more minutes. Take the saucepan off the burner. Add vanilla. Stir.

Notes
This is an easy, simple pudding, which children particularly like. It is especially welcome on a rainy, cold night. We often place banana slices on top of the pudding for added benefit.
