French-Russian Dressing

Ingredients
1/4 cup vinegar (I use rice vinegar because it is milder than cider vinegar)
1/4 cup sugar
1/3 cup chili sauce (I use Heinz)
1 clove garlic, crushed
2 tablespoons grated white or yellow onion
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup salad oil (I use olive oil now, although in early days I used salad oil)

Directions
Combine all the ingredients, except for the oil, in a blender or food processor. Let the mixture stand for ten minutes. Turn the processor on again; slowly add the oil, blending it very well. (By doing this gradually, the oil and mixture do not separate.)

Notes
I have used this salad dressing for almost thirty years. Every time a guest tastes this dressing, she or he always inquires about the brand. When I admit that it is homemade, almost always a request for the recipe follows. This French-Russian recipe is so much better than any bottled French dressing I have ever tasted. If you have a big family, you may find it's worthwhile to double the recipe.
