Melt-In-Your-Mouth Sugar Cookies

Ingredients
Cream the following ingredients together:
1 cup sugar
2 cubes butter
1 cup oil
1 egg
1 cup powder sugar
4 teaspoons vanilla

**Please note: One cube of butter equals the following measurements: (1) one-half cup; (2) four ounces; (3) one-fourth pound. This recipe calls for 2 cubes of butter, which is equal to one cup of butter.

Sift together the following ingredients. Add them to the above mixture.
5 cups flour
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 teaspoon soda
1/2 teaspoon salt

Directions
Mix all together. Roll the batter into small balls. Place them on a cookie sheet. Butter the bottom of a drinking glass; dip it in sugar. Then flatten the balls with the sugary glass bottom. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 10-12 minutes.

Notes
This sugar cookie recipe has been a long favorite of mine as well as many of my friends. It is wonderful for teas or other social engagements. The cookies are rich and delightfully buttery. They simply melt in your mouth! Also, one batch of cookies will yield more than the usual few handfuls.
